Attack on minorities in Bangladesh, which once broke away from India and emerged as a secular nation, today the minority Hindu, Christine and Buddhist community there is going through a period of deep pain and humiliation. The recent incidents of Islamic Radical besieging the Sri Sri Durga temple in Dhaka’s Khilkhet area, threatening it and then occupying the land show that even temples are not safe there anymore. Outrage in the name of religion, and the silent consent of the administration, are making these incidents even more frightening.

Durga temple surrounded in Dhaka: ‘Remove the temple, otherwise we will demolish it’
The Sri Sri Durga Temple in Dhaka’s Khilkhet area, a major religious site for the local Hindu community, was surrounded by a large Muslim Radical extremist mob on the night of 23 June 2025. A large number of devotees were present in the temple at that time. The Radical extremists clearly said, “Remove the temple yourself by 12 noon on Tuesday, or else we will raze it to the ground.” According to devotees present in the temple, the people making the threats were citing ‘religious orders’ and demanding the minority Hindu community to bow down.

Role of police: Peace ambassadors or under political pressure?
The role of Bangladesh police in this entire incident is also under question. The police did reach the spot after the Radical crowd gathered, but no strict action was taken. Inspector Mohammad Ashikur Rahman said in a statement, “We are trying to resolve the matter peacefully.” He described this incident as just an ‘argument’ and tried to downplay threats like ultimatum. Is the administration also under pressure from Islamic Radical ? Or is the safety of Hindus not being given priority?
Occupation of the land of 1400 years old Chandi Mata temple in Coomilla
Another serious case has come to light from Coomilla district of Bangladesh, where a local man Abdul Ali and his Radical gang encroached upon the land of the 1400-year-old Shiv Chandi Mata temple. According to reports, Ali built a tin house on this land and declared it as ‘ancestral property’. When local Hindu woman Chandana Rahut protested against this illegal encroachment, Ali and his Radical associates attacked her. Attack on minorities in Bangladesh
Land of historical temple grabbed by Muslim fundamentalists: Occupying rest house
Deepak Saha, president of Shiv Chandi Mandir Samiti, said that the land of the temple is registered in government documents and a rest house has also been built here recently. This effort was made for the convenience of the facility, but Abdul Ali not only occupied the land, but also declared it as his family property by building on it. Attack on minorities in Bangladesh
On June 17, the local Hindu society also protested against this town. Despite this, no concrete action was taken by the administration, which includes the ownership of Bangladesh and the inaction of the industrial mechanism.
International Association Styles and India’s Role
The response of the United Nations, human rights organizations and even the Indian government to such incidents has been very limited. This is a worrying situation, because these are not just attacks on religious minorities but a direct attack on humanity.
India, which is the world’s largest Hindu, Christion, Buddhist -majority nation, should raise a strong voice against such atrocities. At the same time, it is important to send a message to Bangladesh that religious tolerance is not an option but a necessary condition.
Will we become a minority in Bangladesh? The road ahead and the struggle
For the Hindus, Christians and Buddhists of Bangladesh, this fight has now become a fight for survival. Attacks on temples, occupation of lands, attacks on women and restrictions on religious freedom – all these are signs that the minorities there are becoming victims of a planned social cleansing.
But the ray of hope amidst all this is that the minorities there are now standing united, protesting and fighting for their identity. This struggle is also a warning – if we do not wake up now, then in the coming years the minority culture in Bangladesh will remain only in books.

Conclusion
Attack on minorities in Bangladesh: In summary, Christians, Hindu, Buddhist in Bangladesh are facing a worrying wave of targeted attacks, especially converts from Muslim or Hindu backgrounds. Incidents include physical assaults, arson, looting, forced evictions, and legal harassment. While the authorities often describe such violence as politically instigated, on-the-ground accounts and third-party investigations suggest a clear religious motivation and sectarian intent. The lack of swift legal response further heightens vulnerability, pointing to deep-rooted structural issues. Sustained international attention, legal protection reforms, and active intervention are vital to safeguarding Bangladeshโs Christian communities. In summary, Bangladesh has indeed witnessed a sharp rise in incidents affecting minoritiesโmostly Hindus, but also indigenous groups and refugeesโsince August 2024. While official narratives frame most violence as politically initiated, the scale, nature, and targeted nature of some incidents challenge that categorisation. International and domestic minority groups are urging more transparent accountability, protection guarantees, and restorative measures.
